Israel finds bodies of kidnapped teens

The bodies of three Israeli settlers who went missing near Hebron two weeks ago have been found on Monday near the city in the West Bank.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for an urgent security cabinet meeting over the matter.

Israel has accused the Islamist Hamas movement, which has its power base in the Gaza Strip, as being behind the abduction of the teenagers. Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied involvement.

Israel sent forces to areas of the West Bank to look for Gil-Ad Shaer and U.S.-Israeli national Naftali Fraenkel, both 16, and Eyal Yifrah, 19.

The three went missing near a settlement in the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli military has set up blockades and closed down whole areas around Halhul, which is just a few kilometres from where the teenagers were last seen.

The Israeli cabinet held an emergency meeting on Monday evening.....

  1. U.S. urges Israeli-Palestinian restraint, security cooperation...

(Reuters) - The U.S. State Department declined on Monday to confirm reports the bodies of three missing Israeli teenagers had been found, and urged Israel and the Palestinians to exercise restraint and continue security cooperation.

Asked if the U.S. message remained one of calling for restraint, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters: "It certainly does."

Psaki said Washington has been in touch with both sides in recent weeks "encouraging security cooperation, that the Israelis and the Palestinians continue to work with one another on that, and we certainly would continue to urge that ... in spite of, obviously, the tragedy and the enormous pain on the ground."

Earlier, she declined to confirm Israeli media reports that Israeli security forces had found the bodies of the three teenagers who went missing in the West Bank earlier this month.

"We have seen the reports. I don’t have anything to confirm from here. I would point you to the government of Israel," Psaki said at the briefing. "The kidnapping and, of course, any harm that has been done to these teenagers is a tragedy." .............http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/06/30/us-palestinian-israel-usa-idUSKBN0F525K20140630?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews
